want to build a program for a buisness?
Hi,
I have several years experience in web design now (html, javascript, php, bit of mysql etc) and I want to build a program to help to organise my parents photography buisness - i.e. the program will store our venues and contact details, manage orders over the phone, create posters to be printed etc.
What language would you people suggest to use to build this? I was thinking visual basic but its meant to have quite a few flaws... so was wondering C++ but I also fear that this language is well out of my depth?
What is your opinions?

Oh yeah, also the program would need to work on multiple computers but only connect to 1 database. Would it be easier to create a user application AND a server interface to handle the data?
I have tried the approach of using a web browser to run this program with a local php server, not really going to do what I need it to do!

Does anybody know of a free product that has the same features as publisher?
My Dad has been using print artist on his old windows 95 for ages but i said to him that there were plenty of other programmes that will work on his windows vista that are a millions time better. He need a programme that can create poster/signs so i immediately thought Microsoft publisher but he doesn't want to pay the price for it :S typical! so is there anything that works in basically the same way as that but for free?

ive honestly never heard from people getting a job as a graphic designer and i am not creatie in art so is social work a great pick as a major?
which major involves a lot of writing?
